This site collects the email address you give me if you join the list, displays ads served by Google, and uses Google Analytics to measure how the site is used. Both Google services use cookies or similar technologies. Here's exactly what happens to your data, and how to control it.
The only personal information you give me directly is the email address you submit through a sign-up form on this site, to join the newsletter. I don't ask for your name, phone number, or anything else. Separately, the analytics and advertising tools described below automatically collect technical information from your browser, such as device and browser type, approximate location based on your IP address, and the pages you visit.
Newsletter sign-ups run on beehiiv, a dedicated email newsletter service. When you subscribe, your email address is stored in my beehiiv account and beehiiv sends you a confirmation email. I use the list to send the Simple Money Advice newsletter, including notes when a new article or tool goes up. If that use ever expands, for example to include an occasional message tied to a paid partnership, I'll disclose it clearly and update this page first. beehiiv may log standard technical details of the sign-up, like your IP address, and its embedded form may use cookies or similar technologies. This site displays advertising served by Google through Google AdSense. Google and its advertising partners may use cookies, device identifiers, or similar technologies to serve ads based on your visits to this site and other sites on the internet, and to measure how those ads perform. This is sometimes called "interest-based" or "personalized" advertising.
If you're in the European Economic Area, the UK, or another region where consent is required before personalized ads can be shown, you'll see a consent tool the first time you visit, and you can change your choice at any time. Outside those regions, you can still opt out of personalized advertising through Google's Ad Settings, or more broadly through the Digital Advertising Alliance's opt-out page. You can also block cookies entirely in your browser's settings, though that may affect how other parts of the site work.
I don't control what data Google or its ad partners collect through these ads, and I don't receive or access that data beyond aggregated, anonymized performance reports (like estimated earnings or impressions). This site uses Google Analytics 4, a service from Google, to understand how the site is used: which pages are read, roughly where visitors come from, and how they found the site. Google Analytics sets cookies in your browser and collects information such as device and browser type, approximate location based on your IP address, the pages you view, and how long you stay. I see this only in aggregated reports, I don't use it to identify you, and I don't combine it with the email list. You can opt out with the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on or by blocking cookies in your browser.
Netlify, which hosts the site, also uses a small script to measure how fast pages load for visitors. If I add or change an analytics tool, I'll update this page.

I don't sell or rent your email address. It's shared only with beehiiv, the service that runs the sign-up form and sends the emails, and only so it can do that. If that ever changes, for example to connect you with a referral partner at your request, I'll disclose it here and get your consent first.
I keep your email address for as long as you're subscribed. Every newsletter email includes an unsubscribe link, and you can also contact me directly (below) and I'll remove it. If you're in the EU, UK, or California, you have rights under GDPR or CCPA to request access to, or deletion of, your data. I'll honor that request for anyone who asks, regardless of where you live.
This site isn't directed at children, and I don't knowingly collect information from anyone under 13.
