About to negotiate? The gross number is the one you argue about, but this is the one you live on.
How to negotiate

Uses 2026 federal figures: the standard deduction, the seven federal brackets, Social Security at 6.2% on wages to $184,500, Medicare at 1.45% plus the 0.9% surtax above $200,000 single or $250,000 joint. State tax is applied as a flat effective rate you enter, which is an approximation: most states have brackets, some have none, and a few tax differently. This assumes the standard deduction, health premiums paid pre-tax through a Section 125 plan, and a traditional rather than Roth 401(k). It does not include local or city taxes, state disability or paid family leave withholding, other benefit deductions, or credits. Estimates only, not tax advice.
